The voice access feature in Windows 11 replaces Windows Speech Recognition and is a whole different feature.
Additionally, voice access is not integrated with Microsoft's digital assistant Cortana, which is now available as a standalone Cortana app with Windows 11.
1. Open the Start Menu in Windows 11.
2. Click on All App
3. Select Settings
4. Select Accessibility
5. Scroll down & select Speech
6. Then, choose the switch on the right of Voice access to turn the feature on
7. Next, when you launch Windows, a thin app should appear at the top of the screen.
If this is your first time utilizing voice access, a brief welcome popup message will display. To close this pop-up, click the X button.
8. To install the required files for the voice access function, click Download.
9. If you are using voice access for the initial time, a pop-up window asking you to choose your preferred microphone for voice commands should display.
Simply pick your microphone from the list, click the arrow symbol, and then click Done to proceed.
If you don't see this prompt, enter the voice access options by clicking the gear in the top-right corner, then Select default microphones and the name of your microphone.
